The United States Postal Service is planning to raise the price of stamps for the second time this year. The agency filed a notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission that it wants to increase the cost of a First-Class stamp from 68 cents to 73 cents.
In addition, it wants to raise the price of sending a postcard domestically from 53 cents to 56 cents, while the cost of sending an international postcard would rise by 10 cents to $1.65.
“As changes in the mailing and shipping marketplace continue, these price adjustments are needed to achieve the financial stability sought by the organization’s Delivering for America 10-year plan,” the Postal Service said in a statement. “USPS prices remain among the most affordable in the world.”
If the price hikes are approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission, they will take effect in July.
In January, the Postal Service increased the cost of a First-Class stamp by two cents.
